The year 2005 marks the bicentenary of the world-famous Danish writer
of fairytales HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN. Rosendahl is celebrating the
occasion by launching a Hans Christian Andersen dinner service,
designed by Lin Utzon. Lin Utzon found her inspiration in six of Hans
Christian Andersen’s best-known and best-loved tales
LIN UTZON says: ‘As a general rule, I always try to “marry my design”
to whatever is to be embellished. Hans Christian Andersen’s tales
include lots of descriptions of nature. I latched onto that straight
away, because nature is one of my greatest sources of inspiration. I’ve
used this as the leitmotif in the design of the entire service. Hans
Christian Andersen was also famous for his many fantastic papercuts.
They gave me inspiration, too.’
The dinner service won the prestigious Germany design prize
DESIGN PLUS 2004. The prize is awarded at the Ambiente fair in
Frankfurt and is given for products regarded as exhibiting exemplary,
forward-looking design.
